Uninsured Division
The Uninsured Division is a completely separate program administered by the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund. The Uninsured Division was created by statute to pay claims to Maryland residents who have been injured in an automobile accident and have no other source of recovery or collectible insurance.
This program is available to Maryland residents who do not own a vehicle that could provide them with coverage, who do not live with a relative who might have a policy that could provide them with coverage, and both the vehicle they were riding in and the “at fault” vehicle do not have insurance. Also, they must be “negligent free”, meaning they cannot have contributed to their damages in any way.
Funding the Uninsured Division:
The Uninsured Division is primarily funded by uninsured motorist penalty fines imposed on uninsured drivers in Maryland. No insurance company or any Maryland driver has contributed to this fund, unless they have been fined for driving without insurance.
